Numerical Simulations of Particle Motions at Continuous Rotational Speed Changes in Horizontal Rotating Drums

چکیده
The motion of binary particles in three horizontal rotating drums with continuous rotational speed changes was studied based on the Discrete Element Method (DEM). Different simulation conditions were compared between two circular and an elliptical drum using same number physical properties for drums, at a series from 0.01 to 21.9 rad/s. By varying speed, four flow regimes produced simulation. Flow regimes, velocity vectors, normal forces, contacts 1 mm 3 comparatively analyzed, especially particle transient changing speeds. results showed that found different forces weakest cataracting regime; moreover, layers damaged when suddenly decreased direction changed top particles’ bed. maximum rolling regime, results. major axis smaller than minor largest among drums.

متن کاملContinuous Avalanche Segregation of Granular Mixtures in Thin Rotating Drums
We study segregation of granular mixtures in the continuous avalanche regime (for frequencies above 1 rpm) in thin rotating drums using a continuum theory for surface flows of grains. The theory predicts profiles in agreement with experiments only when we consider a flux-dependent velocity of flowing grains. We find the segregation of species of different size and surface properties, with the s...
متن کاملTransition to Centrifugal Particle Motion in Rotating Drums
The dynamics and the transition to the centrifugal regime are studied analytically and numerically for particles in rotating drum. The importance of the particle-wall friction coefficient is demonstrated by studying first the motion of one non-rotating particle where three different regimes are found in the transition to the centrifugal motion. When a few rotating particles are considered, they...
متن کاملLarge numerical simulations of turbulent rotating flows
Scientific context Rotation, as measured by the Rossby number (the ratio of the rotation period to the eddy turn over time) is present in astroand geophysics. For example, the high Reynolds number large scales of atmospheric and oceanic flows are affected by the rotation of the Earth; the Rossby number Ro = U0/[L0Ω] for mid-latitude atmospheric synoptic scales is Ro ≈ 0.1 whereas in the solar c...
متن کاملNumerical simulations of rotating axisymmetric sunspots
A numerical model of axisymmetric convection in the presence of a vertical magnetic flux bundle and rotation about the axis is presented. The model contains a compressible plasma described by the nonlinear MHD equations, with density and temperature gradients simulating the upper layer of the sun’s convection zone. The solutions exhibit a central magnetic flux tube in a cylindrical numerical do...
